IP rating

Protection rating (degree of protection) – IP (Ingress Protection) rating of the devices, expressed as two digits, e.g. IP67. Each number denotes different degrees of protection against solid, dust and water ingress.

The first digit - solid or dust ingress protection. The second digit - water ingress protection.
0 No protection. 0 No protection.
1 Protection against solid objects with a diameter greater than 50 mm. 1 Resistant to drops of water falling vertically.
2 Protection against solid objects with a diameter greater than 12.5 mm. 2 Resistant to drops falling at an angle of 15 degrees.
3 Protection against solid objects with a diameter greater than 2.5 mm. 3 Resistant to drops falling at an angle of 60 degrees.
4 Protection against solid objects with a diameter greater than 1 mm. 4 Protection against drops of water falling from all directions
5 Dust-resistance 5 Protection against streams of water from all directions.
6 Dust-proof 6 Powerful water jets
(Hose diameter - 12.5 mm)
(water pressure - 100 kPa)
7 Device tight after submersion
(for 30 minutes)
8 Device tight with continuous submersion and increased pressure.
9 Protection against streams of water from all directions.
(applies to German standard DIN 40050)

A description for each digit is given below.

The first digit - solid or dust ingress protection.

0 No protection. Not protected against solid and dust ingress.
1 Protection against solid objects with a diameter greater than 50 mm.

Protected against hand contact with live components.

2 Protection against solid objects with a diameter greater than 12.5 mm.

Protected against finger contact with live components.

3 Protection against solid objects with a diameter greater than 2.5 mm.

Protected against a tool, wire or solid object greater than 1 mm with live components.

4 Protection against solid objects with a diameter greater than 1 mm.

Protected against a tool, wire or solid object greater than 1 mm with live components.

5 Protection against substantial ingress of dust.

Protected against contact with live components. Dust protected. Limited ingress of dust permitted will not interfere with operation of the equipment or operation safety.

6 Protection against ingress of dust.

Protected against contact with live components.

The second digit - water ingress protection.

0 No protection. No protection against water ingress.
1 Resistant to drops of water falling vertically.

Drops of water splashed on the device should not affect the operation safety.

2 Resistant to drops falling at an angle of 15 degrees.

Drops of water splashed on the device up to 15 degrees from vertical should not affect the operation safety.

3 Resistant to drops falling at an angle of 60 degrees.

Water splashed up to 60 degrees from the vertical from all directions should not affect the operation safety.

4 Protection against drops of water falling from all directions

Water splashed from all directions should not affect the operation safety.

5 Protection against streams of water from all directions.

Water jet from all directions should not affect the operation safety.

6 Protection against streams of water from all directions.

Water jet under pressure from all directions should not affect the operation safety.
(Hose diameter - 12.5 mm)
(water pressure - 100 kPa)

7 Device tight after submersion
(for 30 minutes)

After immersing the device with its top surface at least 15 cm under the water surface, no water should ingress inside the device.

8 Device tight with continuous submersion and increased pressure.

After immersing the device for long period at a depth of at least 1 m, no water should ingress inside the device.
