ePoE - a standard for data and power transmission over UTP and coaxial cable

ePoE standard allows to supply power to the IP camera via a compatible network switch or NVR with embedded switch at the distance of up to 800 m (to overcomes the limitation of traditional Ethernet restricting cable distances to 100 metres).

The standard allows to transfer power over Ethernet at the distance of up to 800 m - 13 W power input at 10 Mb/s or at the distance of up to 300 m - 25.4 W power input at 100 Mb/s.

A solution patented by Dahua also allows to connect the IP cameras with coaxial cables with EoC LR1002 ePoE to BNC adaptor. The maximum transmission distance using RG-59 cable is 1000 m (at 10 Mb/s and max. 8 W power input). Table 1 shows available ePoE range using RG-59 cables.

Table 1. ePoE transmission distance using RG-59 cables

Cable Bandwidth Power input
(IEEE 802.3af/at)
100 m 100 Mbps 25.5 W
200 m 100 Mbps 25.5 W
300 m 100 Mbps 25.5 W
400 m 100 Mbps 20 W
500 m 10 Mbps 16 W
800 m 10 Mbps 10 W
1000 m 10 Mbps 8 W

ePoE technology offers data and power transmission at significant distances over coaxial and UTP cables. It offers more flexibility and reduces the rewiring costs.
